Once I got that first site under control I realized that it would be cheaper to build my own site the next time. With no HTML or other coding experience, and needing to spend more time on providing services or a product, my next site needed to be simple from a technical perspective. I did a lot of research and found many online web site builders, website builders that came on a CD that had to be uploaded, etc. Almost all of these promised to be easy and fast. I saw many of these sites advertise that they could be built in 5 minutes or other promises of ease, such as just pointing and clicking, no HTML, pre-made templates and so on. What they don't tell you is that you will still need to do keyword research, write with proper keyword placement in the text, submit to search engines, article directories and the rest of the search engine optimization. The quick and easy web sites do not give you any idea the site is built as the the one I ended up with and will describe later. While many of them are free, as the one I have, you still have to pay the hosting fee. This is the same offer SBI provides. Most site builders cause you to have to search the Internet for additional tools and that adds an extra expense, these tools all come with SBI. None had the tools that I needed included, except for the site builder I am using now. (Described later.) I developed Love Song Cards using an online site builder where things could be done at the level that I was and using additional skills as I learned them. At Love Song Cards a customer could order a CD with a special message to someone they loved and dedicate a song to them. I provided the songs and read a greeting to their beloved, then hooked their song to it and put it all on CD and sent it to the recipient. This site was an improvement on expenses, but it still had to use outside tools to do what was needed to get traffic, so the expense was not much lower. The SolutionThen I discovered Site Build It (SBI) and affiliate marketing, where a website sells other businesses' products for a percentage of the sale. For me, this was great because instead of always spending time providing a product or service, I had more free time to devote to developing my website. Web Business Tools Online is an SBI site, I built a very basic site because I would rather spend more time writing articles and promoting my site. The more time you spend on the technical part the better your site will look.Discovering The DifferenceThe difference between this web site built with SBI and others that can be built with SBI is I used a pre-made template and the site uses no html. For the more experienced web designer there is an “upload your own html system” and slightly more complex additions to the basic templates like mine for a greater design, look and feel.
