Pros and Cons of buying traffic.

I have bought traffic in the past but like the author of this page stated in the invitation I also never got any sales. There was a lot of traffic so getting it wasn't a problem. The problem seemed to be that people didn't stay on the site long enough to make a decision. I would appreciate knowing if anyone has succeeded buying traffic and how they did it.
