There are many different ways to increase link popularity, but not every link building method is widely accepted. Some of the methods web developers use to get traffic are questionable; others are downright controversial. Differing opinions on the subject have created confusion in regards to the right ways and wrong ways to improve link popularity.

Before attempting to increase link popularity with any link building strategy, it is a good idea to look at the strategy from all angles. If you cross over into unethical behavior, you could end up hurting your page rank in an attempt to get traffic. Search engines do not care whether you know the rules of not. They punish everyone equally.

Differentiating Between Ethical and Unethical Link Building Strategies

Because some of the shadiest methods people use to increase link popularity and get traffic are actually promoted by professional link building services, it is essential that you learn how to differentiate between ethical and unethical link building strategies.

The easiest way to do this is to ask yourself whether or not what you are doing to improve link popularity can be considered spamming. Whether or not what you are doing to improve link popularity can be considered spamming. For example, if you are trying to get traffic by adding automated responses that contain your link to blog posts or web forums, you are a spammer. If you are creating sites or paying sites that are there just to link to other websites, you are a spammer. Although you may be able to get traffic by spamming, you will not get the quality traffic you are looking for. Furthermore, search engines do not reward spammers. If you use red flag link building techniques to build link popularity and get traffic, you will likely get caught within a month or two and buried in the realms of trashy websites.
