Understanding Content Management System

A content management system is a procedure that is normally used to manage the content of a domain or a web page. It allows users to contribute and share and store data and to retrieve the data whenever it is required. Additionally, content management system also helps in reducing duplicate data which might be repetitive and irrelevant.

This data is usually referred to as CMS data and it can be virtually anything such as scientific data, pictures, documents, directories and so on.

CMS Consists Of Two Elements

CMS consists of two major elements: content management application and content delivery application. As the name suggests content management allows users to create, edit and delete content from a web site without using any web master tool. Overall there are six major categories of CMS based on their respective domains like Media CMS, Component CMS, Mobile CMS, Document Management System, Web CMS and Enterprise CMS.

CMS Applications Work Different From Normal Websites

CMS applications work differently from normal websites as these web sites do not have pages on the web server. CMS use SQL database or any other database files that stores the data. The functionality of each CMS indicates how effectively and how quickly the job will be done. Currently, developers are researching and developing new plug-ins for CMS that would help them work faster and quicker and remove any drawbacks that might slow down the overall performance of the CMS.
