Avoiding duplicating content

I stared manual article submission submitting articles on my site several years ago but now when I write an article I write 2 versions. One is shorter and a longer version They are both different in various ways and have different titles. This is an effort to avoid duplicating content to help my submitted articles do better and help pages with articles on my site to rank better on SE's
